Annual gala highlights cultural exchange, business collaboration and premium New Zealand cuisine

Members of the New Zealand business and diplomatic community gathered in Bangkok for the annual New Zealand Ball 2026, an elegant evening celebrating the long-standing friendship between New Zealand and Thailand. The event was organised by the New Zealand Society Thailand and the New Zealand–Thai Chamber of Commerce (NZTCC), bringing together leaders from business, hospitality, aviation and diplomacy to strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

Held as one of the most anticipated social events for the Kiwi community in Thailand, the gala highlighted the spirit of collaboration that continues to grow between the two nations. Guests included executives, diplomats, entrepreneurs and members of the wider New Zealand community living in Thailand, all coming together to celebrate partnership, heritage and shared opportunities.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the traditional Māori welcome ceremony, followed by a powerful Kapa Haka performance presented by members of the New Zealand community in Thailand. The cultural showcase offered guests an authentic glimpse into the traditions of Aotearoa New Zealand, featuring rhythmic chants, traditional movements and storytelling that reflect the deep cultural roots of Māori heritage.

Adding to the lively atmosphere was a special musical performance by the Khutze Band, a group formed specifically for the New Zealand Ball and featuring renowned musicians flown in from New Zealand for the occasion. Led by drummer and musician Patrick Kuhtze, the band delivered an energetic live performance that has become a signature highlight of the annual gala.
The Khutze Band is widely recognised for performing at international corporate events and major cultural celebrations, including previous New Zealand Ball events in Bangkok. Known for their dynamic stage presence and versatile musical style, the group kept guests entertained throughout the evening with a vibrant set that blended classic hits with modern favourites. Earlier in their career, the band also recorded a cover release of “I Feel Good,” which remains documented in New Zealand’s Pop Archives.

The evening’s culinary experience was equally impressive, featuring a special multi-course menu created through a collaboration between Gaetano Palumbo, Executive Chef at InterContinental Bangkok, and Brett McGregor, the first-ever winner of MasterChef New Zealand. Together they curated a menu that celebrated premium New Zealand ingredients while blending international culinary techniques.
One of the highlights of the menu was Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon, recognised for its pristine quality and sustainably farmed origins in New Zealand’s glacial waters. The premium salmon, supplied in Asia by Hofseth Asia Pte. Ltd., showcased the world-class reputation of New Zealand seafood and added a refined gastronomic touch to the evening’s dining experience.

During the formal programme, guests also heard remarks from Dan Smith, President of the New Zealand Society Thailand and General Manager at Dusit D2 Samyan Bangkok, as well as Amarit Charoenphan, President of the New Zealand–Thai Chamber of Commerce (NZTCC). Both speakers emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries, highlighting the growing economic, cultural and social connections that benefit both communities.

The event was made possible with the generous support of leading corporate partners and sponsors from sectors including aviation, engineering, logistics, hospitality and energy. Supporting organisations included Singapore Airlines Limited, Air New Zealand Limited, Beca Group Limited, Amrapur Tailor, Dusit D2 Samyan Bangkok, Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited, Gurin Energy Pte Ltd, Mainfreight Limited, Thai Beverage Public Company Limited and InterContinental Bangkok, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a lively programme featuring networking opportunities, cultural performances and charity fundraising activities. The event created a welcoming platform for professionals and community members to connect, exchange ideas and explore future collaboration between businesses from New Zealand and Thailand.

Beyond its festive atmosphere, the annual New Zealand Ball continues to play an important role in strengthening bilateral relationships. By bringing together cultural celebration, fine dining and professional networking, the event reflects the deepening partnership between the two countries and reinforces the strong connections shared by the New Zealand community in Thailand.
As the evening concluded, the New Zealand Ball once again proved why it remains a cornerstone event for the Kiwi community in Bangkok—celebrating not only New Zealand culture, but also the growing friendship and collaboration between Thailand and New Zealand.
