A new stay inspired by the heritage of Mae Kha Canal
InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping is entering a new chapter, with the Chiang Mai luxury hotel set to unveil 49 new guestrooms and suites in late 2026 as part of the second phase of its development.
Known as Khlong Mae Kha Village, the new accommodation is inspired by the heritage of Mae Kha Canal, bringing together contemporary comfort, Lanna-inspired architecture and a more relaxed resort-style experience in the heart of Chiang Mai’s Old Town.
Designed by Architects 49 Limited, the new wing takes the form of a tranquil cluster of three-storey residences inspired by traditional Lanna wooden homes. Clean contemporary lines are paired with floor-to-ceiling views, creating a setting that feels connected to both the city and the surrounding landscape.
For guests looking for a more leisurely stay, selected ground-floor rooms will offer direct pool access, while upper-level rooms and suites will feature generous private decks and outdoor hot tubs.
The new accommodation will include Pool Access Rooms, Club Rooms and Suites, with all guests staying in the new wing receiving full Club InterContinental privileges. These include deluxe breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails, adding another layer of comfort to the stay.
The design also draws directly from the Mae Kha Canal. Reflections of water and sky are echoed across the façade, while interiors incorporate curated local craftsmanship and traditional Lanna artistic details. Golden Chomphunut accents bring a warm glow to the spaces, balancing the natural character of Chiang Mai with a contemporary luxury aesthetic.
More than simply adding new rooms, Khlong Mae Kha Village reflects InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping’s ongoing connection with the city’s living heritage. The project brings together the character of traditional Lanna homes, the history of Mae Kha Canal and the comforts expected from a modern luxury hotel.
With its new Pool Access Rooms, private outdoor spaces and Club InterContinental experience, the second phase offers another way to experience Chiang Mai, combining the ease of a city stay with the slower rhythm of resort living.
