Lose yourself in Yankii

Bangkok’s new Robatayaki Grill and Bar

Hear the heat, feel the smoke, smell the atmosphere – it’s dangerous, exhilirating, momentous. Flavours that stand the test of time, contemporary dishes prepared and served in honour of the past.

You have arrived for fireside cooking at Yankii Robatayaki and Bar, the latest inspiration from award-winning design agency and restaurant group Soho Hospitality.

The foundation of Yankii is built on legacy and rebellion: care and attention that honors the origins and traditions of its food meeting the challenge of traditional cooking that elevates the dining experience.

Seated along the 30-seat counter of the upstairs restaurant, the robata grill allows diners to get up close and personal to the chef as he busily prepares and grills the food. Served on a wooden paddle with a customary call out over the bold, rebellious New York style hip-hop soundtrack when a dish is ordered or served, Yankii’s Robatayaki Cuisine stimulates the senses.

Ring the bell and offer the guests at your table a round of shots – you’re taking control of your night and the drama is just beginning.

Food at Yankii combines Japan’s Yakitori, Kushiyaki and Robata grill cuisines to create a fun fireside cooking experience.

But it goes further by adding marination and flavour profiles from around the world: chicken liver is marinated with a Peruvian African Anticucho and chimichurri sauce, the pork neck is seasoned with the Korean Barbeque Gochujung sauce and the Salmon cooked Robata style is marinated with a Chipotle sauce from Mexico.

Inspired by the 50’s style Dagashi Shops and their bright, colorful candies, the downstairs cocktail bar pays tribute to Japanese street pop culture with a hip, fun, and underground look, mixing Yankii’s modern take on vintage Gacha machines with dark, moody lighting, perfect for a secret rendezvous.

Japanese-inspired cocktails combine Japanese spirits and ingredients to make a selection of unique signature cocktails.

An immersive experience, Yankii Robatayaki and Bar leaves nothing to chance. Taking its lead from the Japanese rising sun flag, Yankii’s distinctive logo sets the scene for a bold design statement. Designed by Fah Chak, staff uniforms give a nod to Japan’s 80’s biker gang look, from the jacket and pants to the finely detailed embroidery.

Japanese street-style warm intimate lighting with neon accents features throughout Yankii, as do the Graffiti-covered walls wrapped with posters. It’s a feeling, as much as a design.

“Inspired by the gastro pubs of Tokyo, Yankii Robatayaki and Bar combines a modern interpretation of the traditional Robatayaki cuisine where vivid colors, smells and tastes dominate the experience. We are excited to introduce this casual, fun, playful, and sometimes humorous sensibility to Bangkok at time in which entertainment dining takes center stage.

Guests will find authentic, yet unorthodox dishes prepared with high quality ingredients characterized by bold and unique flavors – and most of all, they’ll have a lot of fun,” said Rohit Sachdev, founder and CEO of Soho Hospitality.
